Another thing I'm a little behind in writing on is the mashup phenomenon. For those who aren't familiar with them, audio 'mashups' are what happens when someone mixes together two or more other sources to create something new. The medium's key moment was the launch of DJ Danger Mouse's "Grey Album", the result of the mixing of the Beatles' White Album and Jay-Z's black album. Perhaps even more impressive than that album (and the album is quite a feat) is the Grey Video that was blogged about over at waxy.org A masterful melding of video footage by both of those bands, it really has to be seen. (The official website for the video is no longer in place and there is some debate over whether that's for legal or technical reasons)

The Grey Album is a wonderfully creative thing - especially when you set it next to the 'official' remix of Jay Z and Linkin Park, which instead actually had the label's approval but is utter tosh.
